I bought a pair of shoes online recently that I thought were sweet! Good looking shoes, casual yet sophisticated enough to wear to work. The type of shoes I see other people wear that I would envy. I also got them for a cool $50 at NordstromRack.com, prompting me to return the $80 pair that I purchased at Clarks Bostonian which were comfortable, but boring.
That was a terrible choice.
The shoes I kept have my feet aching at every possible angle... heals, bunyons, pinky toes, big toes... if you can name any other part of the foot, I assure you that mine hurts like the dickens (as my mom used to say).
When I started typing this, I didn't really consider the stupidity of 1) buying shoes online and 2) because they look good. Dave Ramsey would ridicule someone for a $500 monthly car payment by telling them how many Millions of $$'s they could have if they invested $500 a month into good, growth stock mutual funds, and then yells, "I hope you like the freaking car!" I feel the same way about shoes that look good... they typically cost just as much as comfortable shoes (sticker price) but cost way more to the health of your feet and back. I HOPE YOU LIKE YOUR FREAKING PRETTY SHOES!
Truly, a foot was not created so that man could think about them all day... they were designed for travel, for work, for skating, for dancing, and possibly for kicking the crap out of a problem (whatever form that takes). But if you buy the wrong shoes, you will think about your feet all day... and lose productivity and joy... mostly joy. Because aching feet are right up there with screaming children on an airplane and the DMV.
